Area fishing is getting better

Below are the most current reports on fishing conditions of lakes in the area. Information is courtesy of the Mississippi Department of Wildlife, Fisheries and Parks.
Lake Mary Crawford
Bass fishing is good. The bass are schooled up and biting well. One angler caught his limit Friday and another had good luck on Saturday. Two bass over four pounds were caught at a recent fruit jar tournament. Black or junebug colored worms are the best lures right now. Target shallow and medium depths.
Bream fishing is good. One angler caught 20 on Saturday. Redworms and crickets are working very well. The new lake record bluegill (0.9 lbs.) was caught by William Bennett of Monticello.
Crappie fishing is slow. Try minnows and jigs in 8-10 feet of water.
Catfishing is good. Lake Mary Crawford has some nice cats in it. Two big fish were caught recently on ham. Also try cutbait, worms or commercial catfish bait on the bottom.
Percy Quin State Park
Bass are schooling and biting well. Try topwater lures, soft plastics and spinnerbaits in shallow water in he grass and also around the willow trees.
Bream fishing has been excellent around the full moon. One angler caught 70 in two days. Try fishing in about four feet of water around the banks. Redworms and crickets are working the best.
Some good size black crappie are being caught in the willows. One angler caught 18 fishing in the willows about seven feet deep.
The catfish bite has picked up and anglers are having success on cutbait and worms.
Lake Lincoln State Park
No current reports on bass fishing. Try top water lures early in the morning or late in the evening and soft plastics in shallow and medium depths.
No current reports on bream fishing. It’s usually best around a full moon. Crickets and worms are the best baits.
Crappie fishing is reportedly very slow. Anglers are having a tough time catching fish. Try trolling or spider rigging in 8-12 feet of water. Minnows and jigs are both working well.
No current reports on catfish. Fishing around the island should produce some fish. Worms or cutbait fished on the bottom are the best baits of choice.
