Lay out the sunscreen, swimsuit and pack a hat. Summer — though not officially here until June 21 — seems to have already come to Brookhaven.

Brookhill on Natchez and the Brookhaven Country Club are rolling out the red carpet members and visitors.

Brookhill on Natchez will have several new features this summer.

“We will have a Broma’s-to-go station by the pool that will have salads, wraps and sandwiches,” said Levi Patton, club manager. “We have all new pool furniture and umbrellas.”

Other new features at Brookhill include a new waterslide at the pool, a nine-hole flying disk golf course around the property and a pavilion by the pool to provide shade from the summer heat.

“We now have the Tennis Channel and ESPN set up for people to watch at the tennis pavilion.” Patton said. “People can rent out the pool and playground for parties. We are offering teacher memberships for $40.”

Ready to Rally is an event Brookhill is putting on this summer for younger kids who are just starting to learn how to play tennis. The Brookhill Tennis Academy is for more advanced players and private tennis lessons are also available. Swim lessons will be available throughout the summer. The Brookhaven Country Club is making a resurgence after new ownership took over in January.

“What we want to do at Brookhaven Country Club, is take it back to the family oriented organization that country clubs were in years past,” said Ricky Salyer, club manager. “There are so many things that people can do these days but there are very few places that people can find tennis, golf, a swimming pool and a wonderful place to eat and sports bar type setting all under one roof.”

The country club has undergone several renovations since the new owners took over. Those include the renovation of the pro-shop, work to the pool and tennis courts and the addition of Porches Restaurant to the clubhouse.

“What I’ve been told is that the new tennis courts would rival any in the state right now,” Salyer said.

When the new owners took over, the golf course wasn’t in great shape and it has taken longer than expected to make improvements to it, he said.

“We’re following processes to make the course better,” said Salyer. “It will take some time but it will come.”

His plan is to create a family-friendly country club.

“The days when I was a kid and my parents would drop me off at the country club in the morning and pick me up in the evening have all but gone but they don’t have to be,” Salyer said. “There are so many different things we are doing, it will take some time but the goal is to make this place a family oriented place where people feel good about coming, they feel good about their kids coming and they have a variety of things to enjoy in a safe environment.”
