A Bogue Chitto man taken into custody after multiple people were killed late Saturday and early Sunday, including a sheriff’s deputy, has a long criminal history according to arrest records.
Willie C. Godbolt, 35, was taken into custody early Sunday morning as the suspect in the deaths of eight people. Mississippi Bureau of Investigation spokesman Warren Strain said the shootings occurred at three separate homes in the county.
Kiyah Godbolt, who identified herself on Facebook as the suspect’s niece, posted that the man who allegedly killed eight people was “not the Uncle Cory everyone loved and knew.”
“You guys, when I looked at this man, I still seen the same man who picked me up from age 1-17,” she posted on Facebook Sunday morning. “I seen a man who would always call and check on me. I see a man who was always feeding me. I seen a man who always made me laugh. I seen a man who would literally pick me up and twirl me around and tickle me. I seen a provider, a protector and a love.”
Godbolt in 2005 was charged with armed robbery and aggravated assault after he allegedly struck a man with a pistol and took his wallet, jewelry and cash outside a Bogue Chitto residence.
He was arrested for contempt of Justice Court and simple assault by the Lincoln County Sheriff’s Office in 2016.
Godbolt was arrested in 2015 for disorderly conduct/breach of peace and failure to comply with request by Lincoln County Sheriff’s Office.
He was arrested for driving with a suspended license, speeding and no proof of liability insurance by the Mississippi Highway Patrol in 2015.
In 2013, he was charged with simple assault by the Lincoln County Sheriff’s Office.
Godbolt in 2016 filed an appeal to a judgement against him in a simple assault and disorderly conduct case.
