NATCHEZ — The Brookhaven Academy Baseball Cougars looked to capture a road win on Tuesday as they traveled west to take on the ACCS Rebels in Natchez.

After falling behind 2-0 early, the Cougars responded big with their bats en route to the 12-4 win.

The Cougars saw ACCS post two runs in the bottom of the first inning behind a two-run home run from the starting pitcher Cole Gatlin. The lead would be short lived as BA responded with five runs in the top half of the second inning and they never looked back from there.

The Cougars added three runs in the fourth inning and another four runs in the sixth to put some space between them and the Rebels.

Offensively, O’Neill Burgos led the Cougar nine-hit attack with a pair of doubles and three RBIs. Dawson Flowers had a double and a single picking up two RBIs of his own and Brady Spring added two singles. Madison Smith drove in three runs, Fisher Warren had a single and two RBIs while Taylor Freeny singled to round out the night at the plate for the Cougars.

“This was total team win tonight,” BA head coach Tyler Parvin said. “We got contributions from the entire roster and that is what we need every night out.”

Brady Spring picked up the win, pitching six solid innings for the Cougars and giving up just six hits and two walks while striking out five ACCS batters.

“I thought Brady (Spring) controlled the game tonight,” Parvin said. “He stayed ahead in the count and gave his defense a chance to work behind him.”

Nick Ogden pitched the final frame in relief, striking out three to close the book on the Rebels.  Cole Gatlin suffered the loss for ACCS.

Brookhaven Academy will be back in action on Friday facing the Rebels at Harold Williams Ballpark to complete the district series. JV first pitch is scheduled for 5 p.m. followed by varsity action at 7 p.m.
