GAUTIER (AP) — A nearly century-old log cabin in Jackson County is making its way to a state park in south Gautier, piece by piece.

The Sun Herald  reports crews Tuesday moved a portion of the Wilson House across Interstate 10 and over Mississippi Highway 57.

The structure, which had been a bed and breakfast near Ocean Springs for years, is headed southeast to Shepard State Park, where it will be a welcome center.

Attorney Brian Britt donated the cabin to the city over a year ago. Its move is part of a $300,000 project to enhance the park.

Built in the 1920s in Gulfport, the two-story house made of southern yellow pine logs is believed to be the largest and oldest of its kind on the Mississippi Coast.
