Photo by Amy Rhoads/About 30 law enforcement officers from Brookhaven Police Department and the Lincoln County Sheriff’s Office met at the flagpole in front of the police department to pray for the five officers in Dallas who were killed by snipers during a demonstration organized to protest police-involved shootings in Minnesota and Baton Rouge. Police Chief Bobby Bell said officers and deputies also prayed for protection for local departments and for unity in the community.

In the first year, participants came from Loyd Star, West Lincoln, Brookhaven Elementary and Mamie Martin. The event also benefited from volunteers from Brookhaven Academy’s cheerleading team, Loyd Star’s tennis team and Alexander Junior High’s quest program. Pictured is Denzel, one of the participants.
