Romans 12:12, Colossians 1:10-11 and Ephesians 4:2 speaks about words about the ability to have patience, and they read: “Be joyful in hope, patient in affliction, faithful in prayer. We pray this in order that you may have life worthy of the Lord and may please him in every way, bearing fruit in every good work, growing in the knowledge of God, being strengthened with all power according to his glorious might so that you may have great endurance and patience. Be completely humble and gentle, be patient bearing with one another in love.”

Damascus M.B. Church will have its annual harvest festival on Nov. 20 at 1:30 p.m. in the church fellowship hall. The theme for this occasion will be “Determined To Trust In Jesus” taken from Hebrew 13:8. The guest speakers for this occasion will be: Minister Davion Brown of Mt. Wade under the leadership of Rev. Phillip Hamilton, Minister Maxine Dillon of Rhema Word under the leadership of Rev. Darryl Hilliard and Sister Ayannah Williams, from Pike County. This will be an old  fashioned program, remembering the way people dressed, how they ate and how they decorated in years past. The president, Sister Gwen Smith, along with the mission members are inviting each of you to come out and be a part of this event. Don’t forget to dress old fashioned and have a good time in God’s name.

Eva H. Harris School Alumni will have their annual Thanksgiving grocery raffle on Nov. 15 at the Jimmy Furlow Senior Citizen building located on First Street at 4 p.m.

All alumni are asked to please come and bring your tickets and grocery items, so that this raffle will be a success. If you cannot come, make sure that an alumni member gets your tickets and grocery items. The tickets are circulating throughout the various communities at this time for $1 each, and you will have five chances to win. They will have five drawings and give away five baskets of grocery with a whole ham or turkey in each of them. If you are the winner you will be called on that evening to pick up your basket.

Eva Harris Alumni will meet on the last Tuesday, Nov. 29 at the Jimmy Furlow building at 9:30 a.m. to stuff letters to send out for the upcoming school reunion that will be held July 14-16. The committee members are asked to come out and help for this cause.

The next scheduled alumni meeting will be Dec. 13 at 6 p.m. at the public library. President Curtis Tyner and the committee members are encouraging each former classmate, schoolmate and teacher to come and be a part of this effort to prepare for the reunion in 2017.

As we continue to remember some loved ones and friends who have touched our lives in many special ways, we will focus on the following people.

Special prayers are being extended to all sick and shut-ins who are sick at this time. Just know that God hears and answers prayers. All you need to do is cast your cares upon the Lord and Savior. I pray that everyone have a blessed, a  comforting, a successful and a wonderful day in the lord.
