A 17-year-old senior from Enterprise High School was killed early today when his car ran off Bogue Chitto Road and struck a tree, authorities said.
The teenager has been identified as Dakota Wyland by Lincoln County Coroner Clay McMorris.
Wyland was headed east on Bogue Chitto Road, about a half mile from Hwy. 583, said Lincoln County Sheriff’s Chief Deputy Johnny Hall. It happened about 6:21 a.m.
“It looks like he may have overcorrected and ran off the road, which caused the accident,” he said.
Hall said the vehicle also flipped.
McMorris said Wyland was driving a 2007 Nissan Altima.
The victim was pronounced dead on the scene.
Seniors were meeting early at the school today for a class trip to Baton Rouge, Louisiana, and were scheduled to leave at 6:30 a.m., Lincoln County Superintendent Mickey Meyers said.
Counselors and area pastors are meeting with students today at the school, he said.
