Some people have a hard time staying positive when things don’t go the way they wished or expected. This certainly does not seem to be the case with the Bogue Chitto Bobcats and their head coach Gareth Sartin.

Going into game No. 10 of the season with no wins on the board, Bogue Chitto faces off in a region game tonight against the 5-4 Sacred Heart Crusaders. The Bobcats wrap up the season next week at Springfield. 

Even if it hasn’t shown so far on the final scoreboard, the Bobcats have come a long way this season.

“Offensively, we’re moving the ball better here toward the end of the season,” Sartin said. “Our skill play has been our biggest strength.”

“Our guys get better each week,” he added. “We’ve got a young team, with a lot of new starters. We’re trying to work back toward being a competitive team, doing little things right in order to make that happen.”

Before the season began, Sartin said he knew his new quarterback Trey Nettles would “make mistakes, but he’s a competitor … he just has to get his footwork down.”

Sartin has been impressed with the progress Nettles has made.

“Trey has improved a lot as the year has gone along,” said Sartin. “He’s improved reading, in his throwing, and he’s more comfortable in the shotgun offense. He’s done well.”

The Bobcats know their season is not over yet, and have kept good attitudes as they have worked hard every week.

“They have seen some improvements that they have made,” Sartin said, which helped them realize they are getting better. “They are a good group of kids, and they’ve done real well all year staying up and staying positive.”

The Bogue Chitto Bobcats host the Sacred Heart Crusaders at 7 p.m.
