The Ole Towne Church doors will soon open for area foodies to fill their taste buds with delicious local dishes at the annual Taste of the Trust.
The fundraising event presented by the Brookhaven Trust will be Nov. 10 from 5:30 to 9 p.m.
Ticketholders will have the opportunity to try foods from 15 vendors, bid on a variety of items in the silent auction and enjoy the musical stylings of local entertainment.
The restaurants featured will include:
• Betty’s Eat Shop
• Bob’s Sandwich Shop
• Broma’s, Poppa’s Fish House
• Mitchell’s Catering
• Brookhaven Little Theatre
• Georgia Blue
• Pasta Junction
• Southwest Distributors
• Los Parilleros
• Tastefully Simple
• Pampered Chef
• Copiah-Lincoln Community College Culinary Arts
• The Crawfish Shack
• That’s So Sweet
Each restaurant will compete for the People’s Choice Award, which was given to Mitch. The vendor chosen as the People’s Choice Award is voted on by the fundraiser attendees throughout the night. The winner is announced at the end of the night.
Proceeds raised during the Taste of the Trust will benefit the Brookhaven Little Theatre.
“This year we’re raising money to help the Brookhaven Little Theatre,” Trust President Mary White said. “I haven’t lived in Brookhaven for a long time, but in that time, I have learned a lot about the theatre, and what a great thing it is for the city. I am excited the Trust has chosen to help them this year.”
The Brookhaven Trust serves as an important part of the community, and the Taste of the Trust provides the organization with a large amount of its funding every year.
“We’re raising money to help our downtown and make it even better than it already is,” White said. “Hopefully, we can help bring more business, and help them thrive.”
The Brookhaven Trust was founded in 1991 by a group of individuals looking to preserve Mississippi’s heritage and promote cultural events in Brookhaven. Those first members rallied around Mary Jane Lampton Auditorium, which is located on what is now the Mississippi School of the Arts campus. Since raising funds to repair the roof, the Trust has benefitted buildings throughout Brookhaven’s downtown.
The Trust also supports art students with scholarships through Mississippi Scholars. In 2015, the Trust was able to award two.
The Trust also has provided financial support for the Brookhaven Regional Arts Guild, which is a subsection of the Trust. BRAG has created a community in which artists in the area can come together to improve their talents.
Tickets to Taste of the Trust are $35 and can be purchased by contacting Jason Snider at 601-695-8123, any Trust member or at Brookhaven-Lincoln County Chamber of Commerce. Tickets will also be available for $40 at the door.
