Dixon has much to be proud of

It was a good run, but Katie Dixon’s time on Fox’s “MasterChef” ended Wednesday night.

Dixon made it to the Top 6 of the cooking show that pits home chefs against each other. She beat out more than 20,000 amateur cooks for a spot on the program. Though she didn’t win, Dixon has much to be proud of.

She lives in Hattiesburg now, but her Brookhaven and Lincoln County roots are deep. She still has family here and, as a Brookhaven Academy graduate, will always be part of Brookhaven’s family.

Dixon has given all of Brookhaven and Lincoln County something to brag about.

Not only did she reach the Top 6 on the show, she did it with class and grace. She wasn’t mean-spirited or angry or negative. She was warm, encouraging and smiled through the difficult moments. It was Southern charm at its best.

“The coaches and teachers at BA always expected the best out of students,” she said at a recent Brookhaven Academy event. “I lived that. They pushed us and at the same time encouraged us. They challenged me to dig deep and push my limits. With that, and with determination and a winning attitude, you could reach greatness.”

“I want to tell each and everyone from Brookhaven thank you for believing in me and always pushing me to strive for greatness,” she said.

Judge Gordon Ramsay was as nasty as ever on the show, but Dixon kept her composure and kept fighting back to stay in the competition. But a chocolate desert challenge finally did her in. Dixon said her goodbyes and exited the show, but not before leaving her mark on “MasterChef” and FOX’s viewers.

Congrats to Dixon and a big thanks for representing Brookhaven, Lincoln County and Mississippi in front of millions of viewers.
