FRANKLIN COUNTY — During a recent routine bridge inspection, the Mississippi Department of Transportation evaluated the posted weigh limit of a bridge on Hwy. 98 in Franklin County and reduced it to 29 tons for H-trucks.

Weight limit signs were placed along the roadway Monday.

Bridge number 45 is over the Homochitto River near Bude.

Last week, the subject bridge underwent routine and fracture critical inspections by MDOT’s bridge inspection team. Due to a section loss to a floor beam and a crack along the top cord of the truss, a load rating review was requested.

MDOT’s Bridge Division is working on plans for the repair, while the repairs will be made by MDOT’s District crews. Weather permitting, crews anticipate the repairs to last approximately three weeks.

“MDOT will work to make sure this posting has as little effect on traffic as possible,” said District Seven Engineer Albert White. “We’d like to advise the public to drive slow and be alert for roadside workers when traveling on Hwy. 98 over the Homochitto River while our crews complete the repairs.”
