A Louisiana toddler drowned Tuesday evening while visiting family in Bogue Chitto, authorities said.

Zayleigh Perdue, who would have been 3 on July 30, was pronounced dead at King’s Daughters Medical Center around 9:30 p.m., said Lincoln County Coroner Clay McMorris.

McMorris said the families had been swimming in the above-ground pool earlier in the day, but had all come inside. Around 8 p.m., her parents noticed Kayleigh was not with the other children in the playroom and began to search, McMorris said. They found her in the pool, he said.

McMorris said it appears that the child climbed the ladder and fell into the pool.

She was transported to KDMC where medical personnel continued their efforts to revive her.

McMorris has ruled the cause of death as accidental drowning.
