Funeral services for Tommy Jerry Wilson of Brookhaven are Wednesday, June 15, 2016, at 11 a.m. at Pleasant Grove United Methodist Church in Monticello with burial in the church cemetery. Rev. Joe Kitchens will officiate. Riverwood Family Funeral service is in charge of arrangements.
Visitation is Tuesday, June 14, 2016, from 5 until 8 p.m. and Wednesday, June 15, 2016, from 10 a.m. until time of services.
Mr. Wilson, 90, died Monday, June 13, 2016. He was born April 1, 1926, in the East Lincoln community to Lorenzo Benson Wilson and Myrtle Byrne Wilson.
He was a lifelong member of Pleasant Grove Church, where he served as a Sunday school teacher, Sunday school superintendent and chairman of various committees, including the Board of Trustees and the Pastor-Parish Relations. He helped found the Pleasant Grove Food Pantry, which continues to serve community residents. He retired after 35 years as foreman at the Jacobson lawnmower plant in Brookhaven and received awards for his leadership over multiple departments. Mr. Wilson and his wife, the former Bernice Quinn, married Aug, 7, 1944. The couple had three children, Tommy Jr., Mickey and Roger.
Preceding him in death were his parents; and his seven siblings, Archie, Freddie, Lester, Terah, Nell, Pearl, and L.B. Jr.
Survivors are his wife of nearly 72 years, Bernice Wilson of Brookhaven; children, Tommy Wilson Jr. of Vicksburg, Mickey Wilson (Marilyn) of Brookhaven, and Roger Wilson (Judy) of Brookhaven; grandchildren, Scott Wilson of Biloxi, Doug Wilson (Stephanie) of Vicksburg, Richie Wilson (Toni) of Wesson, Kristi Burt (Jim) of Brookhaven, JoBeth Thompson (Lance) of Brookhaven, Jake Wilson (Jennifer) of Jasper, Alabama, Elizabeth McDaniel (John) of McComb and Joshua Wilson of Hattiesburg; 19 great-grandchildren; six great-great-grandchildren; a special niece, Carolyn Lambert (Jimmy) of Brookhaven; and many nephews, nieces and friends.
