Lady Wolves season ends at East Central

DECATUR – The Co-Lin Lady Wolves season came to an end as they lost to East Central 9-4 in the best-of-three MACJC State Tournament Playoff round on Saturday, April 23.
The Lady Wolves finish the record-setting 2016 season with a final record of 29-14, which included a record of 57 team homeruns.
East Central 9, Co-Lin 4
Co-Lin was the home team in the game 2 match up. East Central jumped out to an early 3-0 lead in the first inning and plating three runs. Mahalia Gibson reached base after an infield error, and was later brought home on an RBI single from Katlyn Duke. Summer Lavender followed with a triple that brought in Britney McCray and Katlyn Duke.
The Lady Wolves would respond with two runs in the bottom of the inning. Lauren Brashier singled to left. Jessica Crum drew a walk. Dianna Hobgood hit a hard hit ball back up the middle that resulted in a stand-up double, and scored both Brashier and courtesy runner Greta Carley as the Lady Wolves cut the lead to 3-2.
The Lady Warrior’s offense continued to click in the top of the second. With the bases loaded, East Central’s Maegen Ellis hit a groundball in the infield. The throw to plate for the force out was on target and on time, unfortunately the umpires ruled that Jessica Crum’s foot was not on the plate allowing Abby Winstead to score. Britney McCray reached on a fielder’s choice and scored Latesia Davis, followed by a passed ball that plated Ellis. Katlyn Duke rounded out the inning for the Lady Warriors with a double that scored McCray giving East Central a 7-2 lead.
Another run came in for the Lady Warriors in the third after an infield error allowed Winstead to cross the plate.
In the bottom half of the third, Co-Lin’s Dianna Hobgood continued her hot hitting as she hit a two run home run to right field. The home run scored Kaitlyn Taylor who reached base on a fielder’s choice.
East Central scored the final run of the contest in the top of the fifth inning. Caitlyn Aldous grounded out to first allowing Elizabeth Frey to score from third.
Hobgood led the Lady Wolves a double and a home run for four RBIs. Brittany Barbay collected a double. Brashier, Trevlynn Scott, Crum, and Kamryn Vanlandingham each finished the game with a single apiece.
Duke (2 RBIs) doubled and singled to lead the Lady Warriors. Davis had a pair of sinles. Summer Lavender tripled for two RBIs. Andi Hannaford, Elizabeth Frey, and Ellis added support with a single apiece.
Taylor pitched the complete game allowing nine runs (two earned) on eight hits, stuck out one and walked two.
Chloe Thaggard went the distance for the Lady Warriors throwing giving up seven hits, four earned runs, three strikeouts and three walks.
