One goal at a time, KDMC Performance Center wants to give area soccer players a place to hone their skills.
Beginning this summer, a new Indoor Soccer League will begin for area youth and adults.
“We wanted to give the area something a lot of your big cities have in an indoor soccer league,” said KDMC Director of Fitness & Performance Todd Peavey. “And starting this summer we will have a new league here in Brookhaven at the Performance Center.”
Kids ages 6 and up, plus adults, can begin signing up for the new indoor soccer league between May 2-20; registration forms can be picked up at both KDMC Fitness and Performance Center locations.
A league-wide draft will be held on May 23, and begin playing on June 6.
“Right now the plan is to have the youth games on Friday evenings and Saturday,” said Peavey. “We will also have an adult league during the week.”
The league will have five-on-five soccer games for the younger kids, with four-on-four for the advanced ages and adults. Teams will consist of 8-10 players.
Amy Hoover, a former Mississippi State soccer standout and Brookhaven High alum, will help assist with the league. The league will run until July 30.
“It will be fun and exciting for the kids,” said Peavey.
Fellowship of Christian Athletes will be involved in the league as well. KDMC’s mission statement, “Providing quality health and wellness in a Christian environment,” will be the league’s goal for every child and participant involved.
Area soccer has made a vast improvement over the last decade in South Mississippi. Several players have gone on to play the sport in both junior and senior colleges.
