Lady Jackets fall to Taylorsville

TAYLORSVILLE – The Enterprise Lady Jackets fell to the Taylorsville Lady Tartars in the Class 2A fastpitch softball playoffs Thursday night.
The Lady Tartars defeated the Lady Jackets 5-2 in the second game and squeezed out a narrow 3-2 victory over Enterprise in the third game to advance to the quarterfinals.
“I am very proud of my girls,” said Enterprise coach Charissa Burke. “They played hard against a very good Taylorsville team. The future looks very bright for Enterprise as we have several talented players returning next season.”
The Lady Jackets finished their season with a 14-11 record.
Taylorsville will battle Puckett in the quarterfinals in a best-of-three series in the Class 2A state tournament, starting Monday.

The Lady Jackets started off the first inning strong as they punched in one run on a walk by Carlee Nations, a single by Jana Nations and a single by Lauren Gartman.
The Lady Tartars would take over the lead in the second, scoring two runs off costly errors by the Lady Jackets.
Enterprise would fight back to tie the game at 2-2 in the top of third, but the Lady Tartars would reclaim the lead in the bottom of the third inning after scoring one run.
The score remained the same until the sixth, when the Lady Tartars added another two runs to build the lead to 5-2 and held on for the win to tie the series.
Lauren Stringer pitched the win for the Lady Tartars with eight strikeouts and three walks.
Haley Nations suffered the setback for the Lady Jackets with nine strikeouts and three walks.
Lauren Gartman led the Lady Jackets with two singles, a double, and one RBI. Abby Meredith hit safely with a single. Carle Nations had one RBI.

Looking to rebound from the loss, the Lady Jackets jumped on the Lady Tartars in the first inning to claim a 1-0 lead.
Taylorsville battled back to tie the game at 1-1 in the second on a ground ball by Cheyenne Hillman to score Lauren Stringer.
The Lady Tartars added two more runs, in the third and fourth innings, before the Lady Jackets would score their second run of the night, in the sixth inning off of a double from Jana Nations.
The Lady Tartars’ defense would end Enterprise’s rally attempt in the sixth and seventh innings to secure the 3-2 victory.
Lauren Stringer was the winning pitcher in the third game for the Lady Tartars with nine strikeouts and two walks.
Haley Nations absorbed the setback in the circle for Enterprise with two strikeouts and two walks. Carlee Nations (4K, 1BB) took over in the fourth inning and finished the contest in relief.
Lauren Gartman, Jana Nations and Abby Meredith directed the Lady Jackets with double a each. Haley Nations provided two singles. Carlee Nations hit a single.
Stringer paced the Lady Tartars as the plate with a double and a triple. Chenai Keyes ripped a double. Anna Kennedy and Kellie Norris had a single each.
