Brookhaven Academy honored its football, girls’ basketball, boys’ basketball, softball, baseball, cheerleader, golf, track and field, archery, tennis, girls’ soccer and boys’ soccer teams with a banquet Monday night.

Seniors Carter Culbertson and Whitney Moak were presented with the Cougar Leadership Award. Culbertson earned the Most Versatile award in football, Most Valuable Defensive Player Award and Mr. Hustle in baseball. Moak was recognized as the tennis Most Valuable Player.

In football, Ross Felder received the KDMC Golden Helmet Award. Roger Rushing was recognized as the Most Outstanding Lineman. Connor Griffin earned the Cougar Award. Fisher Warren received the Coaches Award.

Allie Summers won the Most Valuable Award in fastpitch softball. She also earned MAIS All-District honors and was selected to the MAIS AAA-AAAA All-Star team. Anna Grace Covington was chosen as the Best Defensive Player.

In girls’ basketball, Anna Michael Smith received the Most Valuable Player honor. Sissy Byrd earned the Offensive Player of the Year award. Sophie Wilson was selected as the Defensive Player of the Year.

In boys’ basketball, Austin Smith was recognized as the Most Valuable Player. Ross Felder received the Defensive Player of the Year award and Ethan Nations was selected as the Offensive Player of the Year.

In soccer, Nic Cizner was named as the Best Offensive Player and Zach Carr as the Best Defensive Player. Bryce White received the Most Valuable Player honor in boys’ soccer. Julianna Mills was selected as the Most Valuable Player and Madalyn Oglesby received the Best Defensive Player honors in girls’ soccer.

Dylan Winborne was recognized as the boys’ Most Valuable player in tennis. Madison Smith received the Offensive Most Valuable Player honor. Fisher Warren won the Cougar Award in baseball. In Track and Field, Kailyn Jordan was selected as the Most Valuable runner and Connor Griffin as the boys’ Most Valuable Runner.

Other prestige honors went to Timmy Lin and Kaitlyn Beal in archery as the top shooters. Luke Jackson received the Top Golfer Award.

Dr. Ed Moak served as the banquet’s speaker and welcomed the large crowd to the special event that was held in the extended facilities of John R. Gray Gymnasium.

Moak closed the ceremony, thanking the athletes, coaches and families for the wonderful year they had at Brookhaven Academy in 2016.
