Columbia blanks BA

The Columbia Academy Cougars picked up two first inning runs and scattered five more in the contest to blank Brookhaven Academy 7-0 Tuesday evening at Harold Williams Ballpark. The two teams will face off again in district play Friday in Columbia with JV action starting at 5 p.m. followed by varsity play at 7.
Madison Smith led the BA Cougars at the plate with a double. Taylor Freeny, Carter Culbertson, Connor Smith and William King each singled to round out the Cougar hitting. Wiley Cleland led Columbia with three hits including a solo homerun.
Taylor Freeny suffered the setback on the mound for BA striking out four Columbia batters while giving up just six CA hits.
“We played a solid defensive game tonight but we just couldn’t string together any hits to put the pressure back on them,” said BA head coach Tyler Parvin. “Give Columbia credit, they played a solid ballgame.
