Lady Hornets fall to Biloxi

GULFPORT – The Loyd Star Lady Hornets kicked off the softball season with a loss Friday night, falling to the Biloxi Lady Indians 6-3 in Gulf Coast’s softball classic tournament.
The Lady Hornets (0-1) will resume action Thursday as they host Richland in their home opener. Junior varsity action begins at 5:30 p.m. followed by the varsity game at 6:30 p.m.

The Lady Hornets managed to outhit the Lady Indians 8-7, but just could not push enough runs across the plate to get the win.
Olivia Holley was the winning pitcher for the Lady Indians as she struck out eight batters, walked none and surrendered seven hits.
Biloxi ‘s Carlie Vice, Olivia Holley, Taylor White and Stephanie Scott combined for six hits and six RBIs.
Ali Gartman was charged with the loss for Loyd Star as she lasted just 3 1/3 innings. She walked none, struck out one and allowed five runs.
The Lady Indians captured the lead in the fourth inning with two runs on two doubles.
Biloxi added to its lead in the sixth inning with four runs.
Loyd Star scored three runs in the bottom of the sixth on a RBI single by Megan Norton and a two-run double by Kelsie McCullough.
Shelby Smith and McCullough were the top hitters for the Lady Hornets with a double each. Norton and Gartman hit a pair of singles each. Carly Beth Wallace and Abigail Norton hit safely.
