Brookhaven finishes second in regional meet

RIDGLELAND – The Brookhaven Panthers powerlifting team finished second in their regional meet Friday at Ridgeland High.
The Panthers will have nine lifters that will advance to the South State meet at Gautier on March 5.
Gatson Walker finished fourth in his 114-pound weight class with a total 440 pounds. His personal best was the deadlift, lifting 235 pounds.
Nathan Peavey was fourth in his 123-pound weight class with a total of 395 pounds, he also had a personal best in deadlift with 200 pounds.
Kenneth Bellamy placed first in 148-pound weight class with a total of 975 pounds, which was a regional record. His personal best in squat was 360 pounds, bench 230 pounds and 385 pounds in deadlift.
Kenneth Dixon captured third in 181-pound weight class with a total of 1,090 pounds. His personal best was on bench with 230 pounds and squat at 425 pounds.
Jon Mark Mathis took home fifth place in 181-pound weight class with a total of 865 pounds.
Jay Trunner earned second in 198-pound weight class with a total of 1,085 pounds.
Stephen Springfield finished first in the 242-pound weight class and won the heavyweight lifter honors with a total of 1,450 pounds.
Ben Springfield was second in the 242-pound weight class with a total of 1,045 pounds. His personal best was at squat with 405 pounds and bench at 215 pounds.
Kieran Williams placed first in the 275-pound weight class with a total of 1,155 pounds. His personal best was on bench with 235 pounds and deadlift of 485 pounds.
Trace Clopton earned second in 308-pound weight class with a total of 1,170 pounds. His personal best was at squat with 440 pounds, bench 255 pounds and deadlift at 475 pounds
DaHauntre Hill took third place in 308-pound weight class with a total of 925 pounds. His personal best was at squat of 330 pounds and bench at 245 pounds.
Jeffrey Johnson finished second in 308+pound weight class with a total of 1,300 pounds. His personal best was on deadlift with 600 pounds.
“I am very proud of all the guys that lifted,” said Brookhaven coach Russ Britt. “They all went out and gave it their all. Every kid contributed and got us very important points to clinch second place overall. We are looking forward to Gautier in three weeks. We will have our guys ready to compete.”
