WESSON – The Co-Lin Wolves won a nail biter Thursday night defeating the Meridian Community College Eagles 108-96 in a double overtime thriller.

The Wolves (3-12, 1-5) take the floor again Monday at 8 p.m. as they host Mississippi Gulf Coast.

The game saw 18 lead changes as the Wolves overcame an 11-point deficit early in the second half. With the score tied at 77-all with just five seconds remaining Meridian ran a well-designed play that resulted in a 3-pointer by Denarrius Gray to put the Eagles up 80-77. Co-Lin inbounded the ball and guard Dearius Griffin heaved a long range shot as time expired from well beyond the three-point line that banked off the glass to tie the game at 80.

Action continued back and forth in the first overtime period leading to a 90-90 tie. In the second overtime period, the Wolves put together a 7-0 run capitalizing on a couple of Eagle turnovers to take a 97-90 lead. Meridian’s Ken’darrius Hamilton, Kendall Moore and Demarius Calvert would foul out during the second overtime period and the Wolves were able to take advantage to get the 108-96 win.

Point guard Jonathon Dalton had another outstanding performance scoring 30 points and dishing out six assists. However, this game would prove to be a total team effort as Chris Williams added 21 points and nine rebounds. Donte Watson, playing in his first game after being sidelined with an injury, pumped in 20 points. Griffin added 16 points, nine rebounds and five assists.

Hamilton led the Eagles scoring with a game-high 33 points and 13 rebounds. Gray netted 25 points while Devin Paicely-Smith added 19.

The Wolves shot 43 percent (35-of-85) from the field, 33 percent (11-of-33) from three-point range and 75 percent (27-of-36) from the free throw line. The Eagles shot 45 percent (34-of-76) from the floor, 44 percent (14-of-32) from beyond the arc and 78 percent (14-of-18) from the charity stripe.
