Lady Tigers beat Brookhaven

The undefeated Brookhaven Panthers (17-0) overpowered the Jefferson County Tigers in the second half to claim a 79-52 victory Tuesday night at Sinclair Gymnasium.

In girls’ action, the Jefferson County Lady Tigers defeated the Brookhaven Lady Panthers 47-31.

Brookhaven will resume action Friday when it hosts Provine for a big Region 3-5A test. The varsity girls will tip off at 6 p.m., followed by the boys at 7:30 p.m.

Brookhaven 79, Jefferson Co. 52

In the opening period, the Panthers (17-0) took charge early with a 20-10 run, but the Tigers fought back in the second quarter to cut into Brookhaven’s lead at 34-25 at halftime.

In the second half, Brookhaven overwhelmed the Tigers as the Panthers hammered Jefferson County with a 45-27 explosion to secure the win.

Lazorian McNulty powered the Panthers with 18 points and two steals. Demarius Brooks chipped in with 17 points and had three steals. Shon Blackwell netted 13 points and had four assists. Darrian Wilson contributed eight points and had seven rebounds. Garrick Smith provided seven points and had seven rebounds. Marte Jones, Darius Bryant and Lafollette Bogan scored four points apiece. Richard Marshall and Jashawn Perkins had two points each.

Akeem Williams was the top scorer for the Tigers with 18 points. Christian Day netted 12 points. Josh Day provided eight points. Rashard Short had five points.

Lady Tigers 47, Lady Panthers 31 

The Lady Panthers (1-16) were overwhelmed by Jefferson County’s tall post players.

“The girls played hard,” said BHS coach Preston Wilson. “Jefferson County has a couple of tall post players which made it tough for us to guard inside, but our girls did not give up as they continued to battle against them. Overall, I was pleased with our effort.”

Mya Washington paced the Lady Panthers with 10 points and six rebounds. Arnancy Arnold contributed seven points and had three rebounds. Angel Washington scored four points. Tamia Stallings had three points. Jada Henderson, Alarria Townesend and Asia Byrd chipped in two points each. Taylor Carter and Cynphoni Thomson had one point each.

Diamond Smith directed the Lady Tigers’ offense with 21 points. Antrell Gales provided 15 points.
