Lady Bears edge Bassfield; boys fall

BASSFIELD – The West Lincoln Lady Bears captured a big division win to begin the new year with a 48-45 victory over the Bassfield Lady Yellowjackets Tuesday.
In boys’ action, the Yellowjackets stung the Bears 54-42.
West Lincoln continues Region 7-2A action Friday as the Bears and Lady Bears travel across Jackson Liberty road to battle the Loyd Star Hornets in three games. Junior varsity action begins at 5 p.m., followed by the varsity girls at 6 and boys at 7:30 p.m.
Lady Bears 48, Lady Yellowjackets 45
The Lady Bears and the Lady Yellowjackets battled in a defensive contest through four quarters with West Lincoln carrying a 28-25 lead into halftime.
In the second half, both teams scored 20 points apiece as the Lady Bears (9-6, 1-0) held on to clinch the win.
Jana Case powered the Lady Bears with 24 points. Hanna Moak contributed nine points and was the leader on the boards with 10 rebounds. Alli Mullins netted five points. Demesha Deer and Skylar Hall scored three points each. Carly Holden had four points. Layton Sill helped on the boards and finished with five rebounds.
Azaria Magee paced the Lady Yellowjackets with 21 points and had 12 rebounds. Derria White contributed 14 points and six rebounds. Kendriania Reese had seven points.
Bassfield 54, West Lincoln 42
The boys’ contest was similar to the girls’ as Bassfield led at halftime 22-18.
In the second half, the Yellowjackets managed to outscore the Bears 32-24 in the final two periods to secure the win.
Senior guard Ronnie Edwards directed the Bears’ scoring attack with 18 points and six rebounds. Keshaun London chipped in 15 points and had five rebounds. Adam Martinez scored seven points and gathered five rebounds. Dominique Chism had two points.
Mason Sims was the top scorer for Bassfield with 16 points and had nine rebounds. Racheem Boothe finished with 11 points and eight rebounds. Caleb Mclaurin and Contravis Adams scored eight points each.
In junior varsity boys action, Bassfield drilled West Lincoln 36-9. Marcus Middleton directed the Yellowjackets with 12 points. Karlton Byrd paced the Bears with five points.
