Cougars rally to beat Tri-County; girls fall

The Brookhaven Academy Cougars rallied back in the second half to defeat the Tri-County Academy Rebels 41-32 Monday night at John R. Gray Gymnasium.
In girls’ action, the Trinity Episcopal Lady Saints overpowered the Lady Cougars to claim a 51-26 victory.
BA’s Holiday Tournament continues today as games are scheduled to begin at 1:30 p.m. The Lady Cougars (11-6) will tip off at 6 p.m. against Tri-County, followed by the Cougars (7-7) against ASC at 7:30 p.m..
BA 41, Tri-County 32
Tri-County carried a 22-18 lead into halftime, but in the second half, BA outscored the Rebels 23-10 to secure the win on the opening day of the tournament.
“I am extremely proud to get the win,” said BA coach Josh Watts. “We came out flat in the first half, but the guys fought hard to stay in the game. In the second half, we played a lot better and did the things that we needed to get the win.”
Luke Jackson and Ethan Nations powered the Cougars’ attack, scoring 10 points apiece. Jackson was the leader on the boards with six rebounds. Ross Felder contributed nine points and gathered five rebounds. Dawson Flowers, Austin Smith, Tate Felder and Dylan Winborne scored three each. Flowers helped on the boards and collected four rebounds.
Garrett Harmon was the top scorer for the Rebels with 10 points. Wes Neely provided seven points and Jake Jones had six points.
Lady Saints 51, Lady Cougars 26
The Lady Saints jumped on the Lady Cougars early to secure a 15-2 advantage, but BA rallied back in the second with a 8-4 run to cut into Trinity’s lead at 19-10 at halftime.
In the second half, the Lady Saints outscored the Lady Cougars 32-16 in the final two quarters to collect the win.
“Trinity has a very talented team,” said Watts. “Our girls fought hard to stay in the game and we had several chances to turn the game around, but costly mental mistakes hurt us throughout the game.”
Cameron Watson was the top shooter and rebounder for the Lady Cougars with six points and six rebounds. Edie Riley netted five points and had three rebounds. Anna-Michael Smith provided four points. Shelby Flumm, Kailyn Jordan and Anna Grace Covington scored three points each. Sophie Wilson had two points, four rebounds and two assists.
D’Asia Mitchell powered the Lady Saints’ offense with 16 points. Dionna Jackson chipped in with 14 points. Tali Beard and Alli Smith contributed six points each. Jasmine Ivory had five points.
(Girls) Riverfield 46, Tri-County 13
Erin Branch paced Riverfield with 16 points. Taylor Hixon had 10 points.
Mollie Scale led the Lady Rebels with six points.
(Boys) Riverfield 43, ACCS 25
John Kevin Greer powered Riverfield with 17 points. Noah Wroten scored 12 points.
Andrew Ratcliff directed the Rebels with 11 points. Darius Denby netted six points.
(Girls) Canton 45, ACCS 37
Betsy Pace directed Canton’s offense with 19 points. Sara Spencer Pace contributed 10 points.
Bailey Boyd led the Lady Rebels with 11 points. Anna McDaniel and Ashleigh Williams scored seven points apiece.
