A student reportedly threatened on Facebook to bring a gun to Lawrence County High School Tuesday morning, prompting several parents to pick up their children as a precaution.
Sheriff Joel Thames told Mississippi News Now that the school was not placed on lockdown, but his department is investigating “rumors of a threat to the school on social media.”
“An incident today initiated our crisis response plan,” said Lawrence County School District Superintendent Tammy Fairburn. “Student safety is our number one concern and we will implement the steps in our plan to respond safely.”
Thames told Mississippi News Now there did not appear to be an immediate threat.
