In a project Reed’s Metals is calling “Covering the Community,” the company plans to give away a metal roof to someone in need within a 100-mile radius.
“The winner will be chosen from all of the submissions,” Marketing Director Jessica Breazeale said. “People can post those on our Facebook page, or they can private message us if they want to. All we ask that they put their name, the address, that person’s story on why they need a new roof and pictures of the leaky roof or whatever that’s wrong.”
Reed’s Metals’ Facebook page is located at facebook.com/ReedsMetals. The winner will be chosen on Dec. 1. Breazale said anyone who needs a roof is eligible.
“We just ask that there is a need, and whoever submits the story that sounds like the biggest need,” Breazeale said. “We’ve heard a lot of really hard stories. People that are embarrassed to say anything, so they send a private message, or they’ve nominated their friend or their loved one, or those people who are disabled. There was a single parent with four children that was handed down a trailer, or people that are starting up new ministries that need a roof.”
Employees of Reed’s Metals will read through the submissions and choose the one that they feel has the greatest need. CEO Bernie Reed said employees will volunteer their time to put up the free roof.
“[We’re] showing our appreciation,” Reed said. “With how blessed we’ve been we just want to give back. It’s all about giving back to the community. It’s helped make us who we are.”
Reed’s Metals began in 1998, operating from a portable shed in Lawrence County. The company now has seven locations: Brookhaven; Lake Charles, Louisiana; Tupelo; Benton, Arkansas; Jackson, Tennessee; Holden, Louisiana; Meridian; and Jasper, Texas.
