West Lincoln (2-7, 0-4), led by first-year head coach Charlie Jackson, suffered a tough region loss Friday, falling to the Enterprise Jackets 40-8 at Harry Cole Field.
This week, the Bears are looking to redeem themselves with a win over Loyd Star Friday to possibly set up a three-way tie for the final playoff spot in Region 7-2A.
West Lincoln’s top offensive performer against Enterprise was junior quarterback Nathaniel Addison. He completed 8-of-22 passes for 159 yards, one touchdown and four interceptions.
Defensively, Lofton Sills led Bears with 13 tackles. Liam Rutland provided 10 tackles and Chase Owens finished with seven tackles.
Loyd Star (3-7, 1-3), led by second-year head coach Adam Cook, took on the defending three-time state champions, Bassfield Yellowjackets, and lost 39-14 Friday at W.E. “Sambo” Smith Field.
This week, the Hornets have their sights set on making the playoffs as they look to end West Lincoln’s season.
Loyd Star’s top offensive performer last week against Bassfield was Parker Flowers with 165 yards rushing on 17 carries. He also completed two passes for 21 yards, one touchdown and one interception.
James Beard was the top receiver for Loyd Star with two catches for 21 yards and a touchdown.
Defensively, Lakin Wallace led the Hornets with 13 tackles. Konner Allen and Zach Cain contributed 10 tackles each. Nick Smith and Flowers finished with nine tackles each. Blake Ramsey had eight tackles.
Last year, West Lincoln rallied to defeat Loyd Star 28-26 to capture its first-ever post season appearance.
My prediction: Loyd Star ends West Lincoln’s season with a 42-21 win.
