Loyd Star (2-5, 0-1), led by second-year head coach Adam Cook, battled the Amite County Trojans last week and were defeated 64-6.
This week, the Hornets will be on the road for the second straight week as they travel to Prentiss for another big division test against the Bulldogs.
The Bulldogs (3-4, 1-0), coached by Tim McNair, defeated the Enterprise Yellow Jackets 48-8 Friday.
Last week, Jalen Madison led Prentiss with 99 yards passing. Tim McNair Jr. was the top receiver with 45 yards. Anthony Walker directed the ground attack with 78 yards rushing.
Defensively, Jordan Reese powered the Bulldogs with six tackles. Kameron Johnson provided four tackles.
Loyd Star’s top offensive performer last week against Amite County was junior runningback Parker Flowers with 37 yards on 11 carries. He scored the only points for the Hornets on a 78-yard kickoff return for a touchdown.
Anfernee Claire contributed seven rushes for 20 yards.
Michael Harvey completed 2-of-4 passes for 29 yards. Konner Allen was the top receiver for the Hornets with one catch for 25 yards.
Defensively, Flowers led the team with 14 tackles. Harvey provided eight tackles. Laken Wallace had four stops.
Last year, the Bulldogs knocked off Loyd Star 42-14 in Prentiss.
My prediction: Prentiss wins 35-24.
