Copiah Co. 18-wheeler, SUV crash causes injuries

At least one passenger was airlifted to UMMC in Jackson after an SUV collided with an 18-wheeler in Copiah County Thursday morning.
Mississippi Highway Patrol responded to an accident involving a Sanderson Farms 18-wheeler and a Nissan Armada on I-55 near mile marker 54 in Copiah County north of Wesson around 6:20 a.m.
According to MHP, both vehicles were traveling south when they collided with each other in the southbound lanes. The Nissan left the roadway and overturned.
Inside the Nissan were three adults and two minors. All were transported to University of Mississippi Medical Center. A 6-year-old girl was airlifted to UMMC with head injuries. The driver of the 18-wheeler was not injured and the accident is under investigation at this time, said MHP’s Eric Henry.
