MCCOMB – Brookhaven Academy junior quarterback Madison Smith threw for 172 yards on 18-of-33 passing Friday night, nine of those passes caught for 132 yards by senior Ross Felder. But the Parklane Pioneers jumped on the Cougars early and ran away with a 43-7 homecoming win in MAIS football action.
Smith would find Felder open for the 14-yard touchdown strike with 48 seconds before the half. Junior Nic Ciszner would connect on the PAT as the Cougars trailed the Pioneers 36-7.
In the second half, the Cougars were unable to move the ball on the ground, so the load was put on Smith to find open receivers.
Sophomore Price King grabbed four passes for 7 yards. Senior Zach Carr had three catches for 18 yards, and junior Fisher Warren hauled in two for 14 yards.
Felder also led the defense with eight tackles including one tackle for loss and recovered a fumble. Roger Rushing provided seven tackles and had one quarterback hurry.
Senior Carter Culbertson had seven tackles and sophomore Connor Griffin had six tackles including a pass break up.
The Cougars (0-7, 0-3) will return to action Friday as they prepare to host the Amite School Center Rebels at R.M. “Red” Stuard Field. Kickoff is at 7 p.m.
