Wesson (3-3), coached by Ronald Greer, wrapped up the first half of the season with an impressive 42-0 win over the Pirates last week in Mount Olive.
This week, the Cobras are preparing for their first division test as they visit Hazlehurst to take on the undefeated Indians.
The Indians (5-0), coached by Todd McDaniel, return to the field after receiving a bye last week.
In the win over Yazoo City – two weeks ago – Hazlehurst was led by junior running back Wykeen Craft with six rushes for 121 yards.
Tim Steward was the leader on defense for the Indians with eight tackles. Patrick Harris contributed six tackles.
Wesson’s top offensive performer last week against Mount Olive was Jamarcus Patterson with 10 rushes for 90 yards and three touchdowns. Dale Thigpen had 62 yards rushing on three carries and a touchdown. Cornelius Barlow provided five rushes for 60 yards and a touchdown.
Defensively, Chamar Martin powered the Cobras with six tackles. DeMarcus Smith contributed five stops and had a quarterback sack. Jim Guess also had five tackles.
Last year, Hazlehurst squeezed past Wesson 22-20 at Stone Stadium.
My prediction: Hazlehurst prevails 42-28.
