Funeral services for John Loyd Williams will be Friday, Aug. 28, 2015, at Brookhaven Funeral Home at 11 a.m. with burial in Easthaven Cemetery in Brookhaven. Rev. Jamie Wallace will be officiating the services. Brookhaven Funeral Home is in charge of the arrangements.
Visitation will be from 5 until 8 p.m. on Thursday, Aug. 27, 2015, at Brookhaven Funeral Home (Natchez Drive).
Mr. Williams, 80, of Brookhaven, died Sunday, Aug. 23, 2015, at St. Dominic Hospital in Jackson. He was born on May 16, 1935, in Lawrence County to Jim W. Williams and Lillian Gray Williams.
Mr. Williams was retired from the logging industry and enjoyed spending time with his grandchildren. They lovingly nicknamed him “Safety Man” because of his unending concern for them. He served his country in the Korean Conflict. He was a member of Brookway Baptist Church.
He is preceded in death by his parents; his in-laws, Alton and Annie Bell Brister; one brother; and five sisters.
Survivors are his wife of 57 years, Betty B. Williams; daughters Tammy Smith (Shayne) and Robin Lowry (Lester), both of Brookhaven; grandchildren, Brandi Case (Ray Joe), Greg Nettles (Carrie), Justin Williams (Patricia), Madison Lowry, Adam Smith, Wesley Smith (Tracey) and Christina Parker; great-grandsons, Wyatt Case, Raylan Case, Cash Nettles, Mason Chavis and Corbin Smith; great-granddaughters, Anabelle Case, Abbie Case, Makaylee Nettles, Ava Baker, Breanna Baker, Lilly Nettles and Aiden Smith; two brothers, James W. Williams and Tommy Williams; three sisters, Evonne Williams, Ernestine Holmes and Joy Moore; along with a host of nieces and nephews and friends.
