No injuries were reported after a gun was fired in the Walmart parking lot Wednesday afternoon, according to Brookhaven police.
Brookhaven Police Chief Bobby Bell said that around 4:50 p.m. the department received a call about a shooting at Walmart on Brookway Boulevard.
Bell said reports show Jimmy W. Douglas, 32, of 1034 Oil Shell Lane, was approached by bail bondsman Richard L. Marbury of 1814 Harbor Lane, Bogue Chitto. When Marbury approached him, Douglas pulled a .22 caliber handgun and discharged it once, after which the gun jammed.
Marbury and Thomas Prather overtook Douglas and held him down until the police arrived on the scene.
A witness of the incident said she was exiting her car as she heard two loud pops. She said she never saw a gun, and it looked like the two men were just talking. The first thing she did at the noise was retreat back into her car in case more shots were fired. However, the young mother said she did not feel unsafe about the incident.
Marbury had approached Douglas in response to a felony warrant out for Douglas’s arrest.
