A log truck accident claimed the life of a Lincoln County volunteer firefighter Wednesday in Rankin County.

Glen Fuller, 41, was killed around 2:20 p.m. Wednesday afternoon in what the chief investigator said was a “tragic, tragic accident.”

Chief Investigator for the Rankin County Sheriff’s Office Raymond Dukes said Fuller was cutting and pulling timber for C&G Timber Company, of Brookhaven, at a site in Rankin County where log trucks have to be pulled out by bulldozers because of the bad condition of the roads.

Dukes said Fuller had just gotten his 86,000 pounds of timber on the trailer when it was hooked up to the dozer to be pulled out. The dozer began pulling the load out, unaware that Fuller was still in the process of securing a strap directly in front of the rear axles when he was pulled under the tires and the trailer ran over him.

Fuller was a volunteer firefighter at East Lincoln VFD and a single father leaving behind three teenage children. Clifford Galey, president of East Lincoln VFD, said Fuller was a good firefighter and the unexpected tragedy is a “shock and blow to all of us.”

“That’s hard, he’s one of my guys. He was a really good guy, always there not only for East Lincoln [Volunteer Fire Department] but anywhere in the county,” Galey said. “When the call went out he was always there to help, and it didn’t matter what it was. He’s just one of those guys.

Galey said Fuller received his 25-year pin last December.

“He will be greatly missed not only by East Lincoln but the entire Lincoln County firefighter family,” he said.

Dukes said Fuller was declared dead on the scene. Due to it being a workplace death, OSHA will be investigating the accident as well and performing an autopsy per its requirements.

Dukes said the sheriff’s office tries to determine if there is any criminal negligence and as of Thursday morning no charges have been filed, nor does he foresee any charges coming.
