West Lincoln has hired Charlie Jackson as its new head football coach for the 2015 season. Jackson replaces Willie Brumfield, who recently left for another head coaching position at Sumrall High School after three seasons at West Lincoln.

“I am excited to be given the opportunity to coach here at West Lincoln,” said Jackson. “This is a great opportunity and I can not wait to get started.

“I have heard great things about the West Lincoln community and the school,” continued Jackson. “After meeting several people and players, I saw an opportunity to build something special and it is a great place for my family.”

Jackson stated that his plan is to help players reach their full potential and become leaders on and off the field.

“I desire to develop the players to reach their full potential, through focus practice, relentless effort and leadership,” said Jackson. “I want these men to become leaders on and off the field. I believe that building a sustainable level of success is right around the corner.”

Jackson, 37, comes from McLaurin, where he served as the assistant defensive coordinator coach. He has been coaching for 10 years. He had other assistant coaching stints at Park Place Christian Academy and Richland High School. Jackson was also a defensive linemen coach at Belhaven University.

As a teacher, Jackson will take on the responsibilities of teaching health and family dynamics.

Jackson is a graduate of Mississippi College, where he received his Bachelors and Master’s degrees in education. He also earned his specialist degree in education administration from the University of Southern Mississippi.

Jackson’s hometown is Flowood. He is the son of Ronnie and Sigrid Garner. Jackson is married to Christina and they have two boys: Tripp (11) and Vaiden (5).

“Coach Jackson will be an asset to our football program,” said West Lincoln Principal Jason Case. “He is an outstanding coach, but more importantly, an outstanding person. We welcome his professionalism, integrity, and desire to make a difference in the lives of our young men.”

West Lincoln finished last season with a 5-7 record overall and had a 2-3 record in Region 7-2A action. The Bears also made history by making their first ever post season appearance.

The McLaurin Tigers finished 2-9 last season and posted a 1-4 record in Region 6-3A.
