Pat’s bits and pieces

Published 9:26 pm Saturday, May 16, 2015

The Lord gave the word; great was the company of those that published it. Psalm 68:11.

God bless everyone, and happy belated mother’s day to all of our wonderful mothers.

Happy Birthday to my neighbor, Zachary Jackson, and happy anniversary to he and his wife, Torrie.

It’s spring time and the pollen level is extremely high during this time of the year, and my sinuses are wreaking havoc upon me. I had to make another trip to my physician on Monday. I left out of the doctor’s office with six prescriptions, but God is good, and I do feel much better.

Speaking of spring, I have been canvasing the neighborhoods because I love to see the different landscapes, and you guys have been working outside in your gardens. I believe in giving honor to who honor is due, and my neighbors, Earl and Delois Gearing, have one of the best well-kept and manicured lawns in our neighborhood. I also have to make mention of Sylvester and Brenda Young on Dissa Street as well. These lawns are immaculate.

I was also out in the New Sight Community, and Mr. and Mrs. André Spiller also have a beautiful well kept lawn.

If I was giving out awards for lawns of the week, these three would get first, second and third places from me.

To our readers, lets get started with this. Anyone who has worked diligently in their yards and would like to have your gardening skills featured in the column, email or call me. Don’t be surprised if you wake up and see a sign placed in your yards.

Special “thanks” to the Alexander chorus students for performing during the benefit program featuring Vicki Yohe. The concert was held in Hazlehurst and Principal Rod Henderson granted permission for the students at Alexander Junior High School to perform. Their teacher, Mrs. Cynthia Edwards accompanied her students along with her husband, Donald, and some parents of the students.

Mrs. Cynthia Edwards is doing a wonderful job with the students at Alexander, and we are proud of her and our young people.

Even though we had a few issues with our sound, the Lord got the glory and the SOS Chorus Group did get to perform. They also had an opportunity to see Vicki Yohe in person, and they did hear her sing. Vicki Yohe has agreed to return and perform again. I will notify everyone of the time and venue.

I made mention of my brother, Dr. J. D. Littleton would be coming to Brookhaven to meet with our family concerning a scholarship program, and he did what he said. We are now in the process of working out all of the details and we will keep all of our readers informed. The scholarships will be based on a student’s academic excellence and achievements.

We are also working on his memoirs because he really does have a “Rags to Riches” story that he would love to share with our youth in Brookhaven.

Even though he resides in Clarksville, Tennessee where he practices medicine, he was born and raised in Brookhaven to the late Mary Anna Littleton Johnson and attended Brookhaven High School, where he received several academic scholarships before attending Jackson State University.

He is working with me now from Clarksville as we prepare his bio and pictures. He is also a motivational speaker and will be returning back to Brookhaven to share his story with our youth. I will notify our readers of the time and venue.

Until next time, continue to pray for me and I promise to do the same for you. God Bless!!!
