Brookhaven clobbers Natchez

The Brookhaven Panthers clobbered the Natchez Bulldogs 10-0 to wrap up the Region 6-5A baseball race Monday night at Moyer Field.
The Panthers also celebrated senior night as they honored Scotty Bateman and statistician girl Flynn Phillips as friends and families gathered for the special occasion.
“It was great to get the win for our seniors,” said BHS coach Randy Springs. “The guys played hard and had fun. Hopefully, we can continue this momentum as we get ready for the playoffs Thursday.
The Panthers (7-13, 6-3) will host the opening round of the Class 5A playoffs against Long Beach, Thursday starting at 6 p.m. Brookhaven travel to Long Beach Friday for a 6:30 p.m. Game Two contest. If a Game Three is necessary, the Panthers will return home to host Long Beach at 2 p.m. Saturday.
Brookhaven 10, Natchez 0
The Panthers came out and quickly grabbed a 1-0 lead in the bottom of the first inning, before going through a cold spell at the plate in the next three innings of action.
In the bottom of the fifth inning, Brookhaven managed to get their bats going and provided a nine-run explosion to knock off the Bulldogs and secured the win in five innings.
Senior Scotty Bateman hit the game ending single in the fifth inning to give his team the win.
Bateman was also the winning pitcher for the Panthers with four strikeouts and no walks. Tate Walley (1K, 0BB) pitched the final two innings in relief.
Jaddarius Ivory absorbed the loss on the mound for Natchez with one strikeout and six walks.
Penn Wilson powered the Panthers attack at the plate with two singles. Hitting safely were Brnadon Henyard, Blaine Moak, Scotty Bateman, Tate Walley and Jon-Mark Mathis.
Ivory paced the Bulldogs offense with two singles. Dalvion Jackson had a single.
In junior varsity action, Brookhaven beat Natchez 10-0.
