Lady Hornets split with Pearl River Central

The Loyd Star Lady Hornets split a doubleheader contest with the Pearl River Central Lady Blue Devils in Monday softball game at Jan Smith Delaughter Field.
Loyd Star shut out Pearl River Central 5-0 in Game One, but lost Game Two to the Lady Blue Devils 6-2 ending a 18-game winning streak.
The Lady Hornets (20-3, 8-0) are scheduled to be in action Friday against the Warren Central Lady Rams, but it might change to due the opening round of the state playoffs. Loyd Star will begin playoff action next week.
Loyd Star 5, PRC 0
The Lady Hornets came out and quickly overpowered the Lady Blue Devils in Game One as Loyd Star scored three runs in the second inning and two more runs in the fourth inning before the game was called due to a time limit.
Mackenzie Smith was the winning pitcher for the Lady Hornets with five strikeouts and two walks.
Hailee Burns suffered the lost for the Lady Blue Devils on the rubber with two strikeouts and no walks. Jade Latham (0K, 0BB) pitched one inning in relief.
Julies Smith powered the Lady Hornets attack with a double and a single. Mackenzie Smith contributed two singles. Madison Jones provided a double. Hitting safely were Johnna Norman and Brooks Rushing.
Madison Gower and Shelby Lauzon were the top hitters at the plate for Pearl River Central with a single each.
PRC 6, Loyd Star 2
In Game Two, the Lady Blue Devils jumped out to an early 6-1 lead in the first four innings of action and held off the Lady Hornets in the sixth inning to secured the win and snapped Loyd Star’s 18-game winning streak.
Jade Lathams tossed the victory for PRC with five strikeout and no walk. Taylor Harris (1K, 1BB) pitched three innings in relief.
Kelsie McCullough absorbed the setback on the rubber for Loyd Star with four strikeouts and two walks.
Abagail Thornton paced the Lady Hornets at the plate with a double. Hitting safely were Ali Gartman, Julie Smith, Johnna Norman, Kelsie McCullough and Brooks Rushing.
Gabby Keller was the top slugger at the plate for PRC with two singles. Latham directed the Lady Devils offense with a double. Madison Gower, Mallary Parvan, Shelby Archer, Claire Lumpkin and Kayla Stein.
