Loyd Star dominates Amite County

The Loyd Star Hornets swept the Amite County Trojans in pair of varsity games Tuesday night to remain undefeated in the Region 7-2A baseball race at Smith Field.
Loyd Star ended up defeating Amite County twice in a pair of 20-0 victories.
“We are happy for the two district wins,” said Loyd Star coach Jared Britt. “Now this sets up a big district series next week to see who will win district. We got to work hard for the rest of the week to be ready to play a tough West Lincoln team.”
The Hornets (11-5, 8-0) are schedule to return to action Saturday as they travel to Meadville to take on the Franklin County Bulldogs. The junior varsity game is set to begin at 11 a.m., followed by the varsity contest at 1 p.m.

In Game One, the Hornets quickly dominated the Trojans to win the contest in three innings of action. Loyd Star started off the action with a 12-0 blast in the first inning. The Hornets scored two runs in the second and ended the first game in the third inning with a six run surge.
Levi Redd (4-0) collected the win on the pitcher mound for the Hornets with six strikeouts and one walk.
Jordan Michel sparked Loyd Star’s offense with a grand slam home run. Redd fueled the flames with a triple and two doubles. Caleb Yarborough contributed a triple and a double. Bradyn Brister provided a double and a single. Konner Allen had a double and Lamar Lang hit a single.

In the Game Two, Loyd Star continued to dominate Amite County on offense and defense to pick up another 20 run shutout in three innings of action. In the first inning, the Hornets scored four runs, but close out the contest in the second inning to with a 16-run explosion.
Konner Allen (2-2) tossed the win for the Hornets collecting seven strikeouts and allowed only two walks.
Cade Hodges was the offensive leader at the plate with two singles. Dorian Beard provided a double. Hitting safely were Jordan Michel, Caleb Yarborough, Levi Redd, T.K. Patterson, Lane Rogers, Hayden Brownlee and Konner Allen.
