BOGUE CHITTO – The Brookhaven Lady Panthers squeezed past the Bogue Chitto Lady Cats 6-5 in Tuesday night fastpitch softball action.

“Bogue Chitto has a great team,” said Brookhaven coach Mandy Vinson. “They run the bases extremely well and are very aggressive at the plate. We knew coming in to the game that we would have to take advantage of every opportunity we had to score runs against their good defense. Our girls did a good job battling back and coming from behind. I’m extremely very proud of them.”

The Lady Panthers (13-1, 2-0) will be in action today as they prepare to host the Lawrence County Lady Cougars. Junior varsity action begins at 5 p.m., followed by the varsity game at 6:15 p.m.

The Lady Cats (7-6, 3-0) will also be in action today as they host the Wesson Lady Cobras. Junior varsity action begins at 5 p.m., followed by the varsity game at 6:15 p.m.

Brookhaven 6, Bogue Chitto 5 

The Lady Panthers and the Lady Cats battled in a close contest from start to finish. Brookhaven started off the top of the first inning strong as they scored one run.

In the bottom of the first inning, the Lady Cats answered with a two-run surge to takeover the lead at 2-1.

Bogue Chitto would score two more runs in the bottom of the fourth inning to increase their lead to 4-1.

In the top of the fifth inning, the Lady Panthers roar back with a four run blast to reclaimed the lead at 5-4, but BC would answer by scoring one run to tie the game at 5-all.

After a scoreless sixth inning, the Lady Panthers managed to take the lead in the top of the seventh inning as they push across one run to lead 6-5 and held on for the win.

Katherine Shell was the winning pitcher for Brookhaven with two strikeouts and four walks.

Christian Black absorbed the setback for the Lady Cats with 11 strikeouts and one walk.

Shell paced Ole Brook’s offense with a double and two singles. Katie Grace Culpepper contributed two singles. Hitting safely were Tia Bussey, Haley Speaks and Cheyenne Motley.

Zariah Matthews was the top hitter for Bogue Chitto at the plate with a double and two singles. Alana Nettles and Karley Leake provided a double each. Mallory Allen, Colby Kirkland, Baileigh Jackson, Christian Black and Terrah Nelson hit safely.
