SUMMIT – The No. 23 Copiah-Lincoln Lady Wolves jumped out to a 17-point halftime over Southwest and cruised to a 67-50 win over the Lady Bears on Thursday night.

Southwest (10-11, 6-6 Division) took their final lead of the game with 15:27 remaining in the first half when Madison Mault knocked down a 3-pointer that put the Lady Bears up 9-7. A 15-2 lead over the next nine minutes would give Co-Lin (21-0, 12-0 Division) a cushion that they never surrendered. Co-Lin led 35-17 at halftime.

The Lady Bears continued to fight in the second half, but could never cut the deficit to less than 12-points. The Lady Wolves shot 40 percent from the floor compared to 35 percent by Southwest. Co-Lin did most of their damage on the boards, as they outrebounded Southwest 41-32. Co-Lin grabbed 16 offensive rebounds and only turned the ball over 13 times. The Lady Wolves had 30 turnovers in their win earlier his week against East Central.

Co-Lin welcomed back freshman guard Jamilah Sanders after she missed the East Central game with an injury. Sanders, a graduate of Canton High School, finished with three points, four assists, and four steals in 24 minutes of action. Co-Lin found out before the game that they will be without the services of sophomore forward Caroline Lumpkin for the rest of the season. Lumpkin, a two-year starter as a power forward, went down late in the East Central game. Freshman forward Kelley Allen replaced Lumpkin in the starting lineup.

Sophomore guard Claresa Banks led Co-Lin with 12 points. Banks also pulled down six rebounds. Other double digit scorers for Co-Lin were Alexis Collins (11), Kelley Allen (11), and Kristal Flowers (10). Allen also grabbed 12 rebounds and notched her third double double in the last four games.

Gabriella Cortez scored a game high 20 points for Southwest. The Lady Wolves had previously defeated Southwest 77-55 on Jan. 20 in Wesson.

Co-Lin next plays on Monday, Feb. 16 when they host the Meridian Lady Eagles for a 6 p.m. tipoff in Wesson.
