WESSON – Wesson’s senior star receiver Farrod Green accomplished his goal Wednesday afternoon as he signed a national letter of intent with the Mississippi State University Bulldogs.

“It feels really great of achieving my goal,” said Green. “I am excited to be joining and playing for Mississippi State.”

“MSU coach Dan Mullins and the rest of the coaching staff and players made me feel very comfortable in my decision to join them,” continued Green. “Mississippi State has a family atmosphere up there and it really helped me in making my choice.”

Farrod signed his letter of intent early Wednesday morning, but still had a big smile from ear to ear in his joyous moment in Wesson Library as friends and family members gathered to celebrate the special day late Wednesday afternoon.

Present for Farrod’s big day was his mom Falana Green, dad-Calvin Green, sister-Sabria Green, brother- Cory Williams, Uncle Travis Armstrong and Aunt Denise Armstrong,

“Farrod made a good decision,” said his dad Calvin Green. “I told him before the season started to be loyal to his commitment and stick with it. I am truly proud of him for keeping his promise.”

Farrod’s big achievement provided a big buzz around the campus as multiple sports media personal like the DAILY LEADER newspaper, WLBT, WJTV, WAPT and the Copiah Courier newspaper gathered to capture the moment. The moment was also big for Wesson as Farrod became the first Division I prospect in 20-plus years to sign straight out of high school.

“I am thankful for this opportunity,” said Farrod. “I appreciate everyone coming out to show their support.”

Through all the excitement, Farrod stated that he was glad that Leo Lewis will be joining him at Mississippi State. “I talked to Leo and I am glad that he is coming to Mississippi State.” Farrod and Leo are expected to be roommates this fall.

In Farrod’s senior year for the Cobras, he lead the team in receiving yards with 25 catches for 409 yards. Farrod also rushed for 51 yards on 26 carries. Defensively, he had 22 tackles on the season.

I am very happy and proud for Farrod,” said Wesson football coach Ronald Greer. “We will be looking forward to what the future holds for Farrod as he prepares for his new journey.”
