Bogue Chitto sweeps MSD

BOGUE CHITTO – The Bogue Chitto Bobcats and Lady Cats secured a sweep in Region 7-1A basketball action Thursday night as they defeated the Mississippi School of the Deaf and Blind Bulldogs at the Bobcat Palace.
In the girls’ game, the Lady Cats dominated the Lady Bulldogs to secure a 53-32 victory.
In boys’ action, the Bobcats clobbered the Bulldogs to gain a 68-47 win.
Bogue Chitto will resume action Tuesday as they prepare to host the Natchez Cathedral Green Wave for more district action. The girls are schedule to begin at 6 p.m., followed by the boys game.
Bogue Chitto 53, MSD 32
The Lady Cats quickly took care of business in the first half of action as they dominated the Lady Bulldogs early to take a 41-15 lead into halftime.
In the second half, the Lady Cats (17-4, 3-0) played several of their younger players against the Lady Bulldogs and cruised to a 53-32 win.
Junior guard Zariah Matthews powered the Lady Cats with 18 points, five rebounds, five steals and four assists. Karlie Williams continued the onslaught with 15 points. Christian Black chipped in with eight points and grabbed six rebounds. TaNeisha May was the leader on the boards with seven rebounds.
Skanieka Coleman directed the Lady Bulldogs scoring with 10 points. Kylisha Cathey provided six points.
Bogue Chitto 68, MSD 47
In the boys contest, the Bobcats and the Bulldogs fought hard in a close first quarter of action as Bogue Chitto managed to pull away to gain a 18-10 advantage and carry a 32-22 lead into halftime.
In the second half, BC outscored the Bulldogs 34-25 to clinch the win.
“We are glad to get the district win,” said BC coach Mark Pitts. “The guys played hard and shot the ball extremely well tonight. I was very pleased with our effort, but we still have a lot of things to improve on as we get ready for our next district test.”
The Bobcats had three players to score in double figures as senior forward Jeremiah Perkins lad the charge with 19 points, eight rebounds and two block shots. D.J. Nunnery chipped in with 15 points and grabbed five rebounds. Tyler Brumfield provided 14 points and had five rebounds. Henry Thomas helped on the boards with seven rebounds and scored seven points.
Terry Fleming paced the Bulldogs’ scoring attack with nine points. Jerome Smith and Ricky Church added seven points each. Darius Trice provided help with six points.
