Culpepper signs with Co-Lin

Katie Grace Culpepper is taking her softball talents to the next level. Ole Brook Lady Panthers’ shortstop has signed a softball scholarship with the Copiah-Lincoln Community College Lady Wolves.
Culpepper, signed her official scholarship papers Thursday in the Brookhaven high school Library. She is the daughter of David and Joni Culpepper.
“I’m excited to have the opportunity to play softball at Co-Lin,” said Culpepper.
Katie Grace mentioned that she is undecided on what she wants to pursue a career in.
As a junior, Culpepper batted .391 and had 15 stolen bases for the Lady Panthers. She accounted for 12 RBI and three doubles and a slap hitter. On defense, she posted a fielding percentage of .863.
“We are looking forward to having Katie Grace join our program,” said Co-Lin softball coach Allen Kent. “We have watched her progress through the years. She has exceptional speed and athleticism.”
“Katie Grace is a true outfielder, but has had to play some infield in school ball,” continued Kent. “She has steadily improved and we feel that she has the potential to really accomplish some good things.”
Katie Grace has officially joined a long list of Lady Panthers’ softball players, whom accepted a softball scholarship to play for the Co-Lin Lady Wolves. Erica Bridwell was the last player from Brookhaven that joined the Lady Wolves in 2012.
Culpepper has been a member of the Ole Brook fastpitch team for five years and has started for the four seasons. During this time, she has received numerous awards for her performances on the diamond, which includes the Hustle Award in 2011, Most Improved Player in 2012, Panther Award in 2012, 2013, Defensive Award in 2014, All-District in 2014 and the All-Area DAILY LEADER Team in 2014.
Additionally, Katie Grace has played with the Southern Lightning travel team and the team has placed or won numerous tournaments including state tournaments.
Academically, Culpepper is in the top of her class with a 94 grade average and she serves on the Student Council and is a member of the National Honor Society.
“Katie Grace is a great athlete,” said Brookhaven softball coach Mandy Vinson. “She gives 110% in every sport she plays and she is a great competitor. We are very excited about her softball future at Co-Lin.”
