Lady Jackets win, Enterprise boys rally past Mize

MIZE – The Enterprise Yellow Jackets picked up a pair of varsity basketball victories on the road Tuesday night.

The Mize Lady Bulldogs were no match for the Lady Jackets as Enterprise rolled to a 55-21 win.

In the boys’ contest, Enterprise rallied from seven points down in the fourth quarter to squeak out a 53-50 victory.

Enterprise returns to action on Friday night as they host Sacred Heart in a pair of non-district contests.

Enterprise 55, Mize 21

The Enterprise Lady Jackets overwhelmed Mize from start to finish as they jumped out to an early 15-4 advantage after one quarter of action.

The Lady Bulldogs were able to keep even in the second quarter as both teams scored ten points apiece.

Enterprise clamped down on the defensive end of the floor in the second half holding Mize to just seven points in the 55-21 win.

Leading the Lady Yellow Jackets was sophomore Courtney Greer who finished the game with 11 points and 6 assists. Alissa Barlow fired in 10 points and grabbed 8 rebounds for Enterprise. In the loss,

Mize was led by Destiny Blackwell’s 7 points.

Enterprise 53, Mize 50 

The boys’ game provided an exciting contest for both teams’ fans. In the opening quarter of action, both teams traded baskets as Mize held a slight 11-9 advantage at the end of the first quarter.

In the second quarter, the Enterprise offense got red hot as the Jackets scored 20 points in the quarter to take a 29-20 lead into the locker room at halftime. Sophomore Dwayne Pendleton fired in 13 of his game-high 27 points in the second quarter alone as Enterprise maintained a nine-point cushion at intermission.

However, the tables turned in the third quarter as Mize matched the hot shooting of Enterprise’s second quarter with a 20-4 run of their own in the third quarter to regain a 40-33 lead going into the final frame.

Behind Pendleton’s scoring in the fourth quarter, the Yellow Jackets made the runs necessary to come from behind and win the game 53-50.

Eighth grader Jontavious Smith provided his first double-double of his varsity career scoring 11 points and grabbing 10 rebounds for Enterprise (6-6).

Wardalious Ducksworth powered Mize with 23 points in defeat.
