The Franklin County Bulldogs and Lady Bulldogs escape Jack Case Gymnasium with a pair of wins over West Lincoln Monday night in high scholl basketball action.

In the girls contest, the Lady Bulldogs secured a 45-30 victory over the Lady Bears.

In boys action, basketball fans witnessed a thrilling double overtime contest as the Bulldogs nipped the Bears 91-88.

Franklin County will resume action Friday night as they visit Bogue Chitto to take on the Bogue Chitto Lady Cats and Bobcats. Varsity action starts at 6 p.m.

West Lincoln will also be in action Friday as they visit Brookhaven to take on the Brookhaven Panthers for a pair of varsity games, starting at 6 p.m.

Franklin Co. 45, West Lincoln 30 

The Lady Bulldogs and the Lady Bears battled back-and-forth in a defensive contest in the first quarter, before Franklin County managed to pull away to gain a 8-2 advantage and continued to increased their lead in the second quarter with a 12-5 run to take a 20-7 led into halftime.

In the second half, the Lady Bulldogs (7-4) outscored the Lady Bears (2-9) 25-23 in the final two frames to secured the win.

Jaylin Autman was the leading scorer for the Lady Bulldogs with 10 points and five rebounds. Jada Hunt and Brianta O’Quinn contributed eight point each. Tadayla Hunt scored seven points and had seven steals.

“We played really well defensively and offensively,” said FC coach Ricky O’Quinn. “Overall, I was very pleased with girls efforts, but we still have a lot of room for improvement.”

Hanna Moak was the top scorer for the Lady Bears with 14 points and six rebounds. Alli Mullins chipped in with five points. Lillianne Rushing powered the boards for West Lincoln with eight rebounds and had three points.

“The girls played hard, but we had too many turnovers which hurt us,” said West Lincoln coach Lane Young.

Franklin Co. 91, W. Lincoln 88 (2OT)

Basketball fans witnessed an exciting offensive contest in the boys action as both the Bears and the Bulldogs fought hard back and forth to begin the first quarter. West Lincoln managed to win the opening frame to take a 18-15 lead.

In the second quarter, the offensive action continued as both teams scored 18-points apiece and the Bears took a 36-33 lead into halftime.

In the second halftime, the Bulldogs rallied back to steal the lead from West Lincoln with a 18-14 run in the third quarter to have a 51-50 lead.

In the final frame of regulation, both teams traded leads on several occasion. In the closing second, the Bears (4-7) managed to nail a big three-point shot by Ronnie Edwards to force overtime at 73-all.

In the first overtime frame, the offensive thriller continued as both team finished with eight points each to force another overtime at 81-all

In the final overtime, the Bulldogs pretty much captured the win from the charity line, but the Bears continued to fight back as they trimmed down FC’s lead to two points in the final seconds, but the Bulldogs managed to clinch the win hitting one of two free throws and grabbed an offensive rebounds to get the win.

Vincent Briggs directed the Bulldogs (9-2) with 18 points and four rebounds. Trianthony Hunt provided 15 points. Jalen Dogan contributed 13 points. Tony Gibbs scored 11 points and grabbed five rebounds. Kel Covington netted 10 points.

“This was a great and exciting game for both team,” said O’Quinn. “I was very pleased with the guys and the energy they gave to get the win. West Lincoln has a good team and they are tough to beat at their home floor.”

Keshaun London powered the Bears with a game-high 28 points and six rebounds. Ronnie Edwards chipped in with 19 points. Zekenith Porter provided 17 points and eight rebounds. Javian Mackabee had a double-double performance of 12 points and 10 rebounds. Lofton Sills added 10 points and grabbed five rebounds.
