KDMC Banquet recognizes Local Athletes

The King’s Daughter Medical Center held a football athletic banquet for all the Local/Area players that were recognized as the KDMC player of the week during the 2014 football season at KDMC Performance Center.
David Culpepper opened the ceremony by welcoming everyone to the banquet. KDMC CEO Alvin Hoover congratulated all the young men for all their hard work and accomplishments on and off the football field. KDMC COO Tom Hood also gave thanks to all the players and coaches for their hard work.
Hoover and Hood, both stated that is great honor for KDMC host this event. KDMC proudly supports our school’s athletic programs, which includes Brookhaven, Brookhaven Academy, Bogue Chitto, Enterprise, Loyd Star, West Lincoln, Lawrence County, Wesson, Copiah Academy, Co-Lin and Alcorn State.
Hood expressed great praise about the growth of the sports medicine program and how we are here to help everyone get better, stronger and healthier. Dr. John E. Turba is doing a tremendous job with our athletes and we are looking forward to have Dr. Mark Barron on our staff later this month. He also thanked all of the athletic trainers and therapy workers for all their hard work in helping our schools and communities.
After the meal, Culpepper announced the offensive and defensive awards winners from Week One to Week 11. KDMC Athletic Trainer Lee Dunaway proudly hand out each award to the winners, while KDMC Performance Center manager Elizabeth Smith took pictures of each week winners holding their trophies.
Brookhaven’s senior running back Tre McDaniel received the overall Offensive Player of the Year Award. Peyton Flowers was recognized as the overall Defensive Players of the Year at the banquet. Peyton’s little brother Parker Flowers accepted his awards.
In week one of the season, sophomore Quitten Brown of Lawrence County and senior Ryan Drew of Copiah Academy was recognized as the Offensive players. Brown lead the Lawrence County Cougars to a 59-6 season opening victory over Wesson Friday night with 11 carries for 134 yards, 3 touchdowns and returned the opening kickoff 92 yards for a touchdown. Drew directed the Copiah Academy Colonels offense with season opening 28-21 victory over Leake Academy. Drew was 4-10 passing for 160 yards, 1 TD and rushed for 152 yards on 19 carries, 2 TDS.
Receiving defensive players on the week were: senior linebacker Peyton Flowers of Loyd Star and senior linebacker Leo of Brookhaven. Flowers’ had 12 tackles and punt block for a touchdown that powered the Hornets to a victory Friday night in their season opener against Bogue Chitto. Lewis’s nine tackles and a forced fumble lifted the Panthers to a season opening win against Franklin County.
In week two, freshmen quarterback Tucker Lambert of Bogue Chitto earned the offensive player pf the week. Lambert had a career night against Enterprise as he completed 33-of-40 passes for 346 yards and one touchdown. He also rushed for 108 yards and scored five touchdowns.
Senior Devin McEwen, junior Kobe Roberts and senior Will Fauver of Bogue Chitto earned the defensive player of the week. The Bobcats defense held the Jackets to just six points in the second half. McEwen, Roberts and Fauver powered the defense with 12 tackles each.
In week three, Brookhaven senior runningback Tre McDaniel and Brookhaven Academy senior quarterback Heath Hickman received the offensive players of the week. McDaniels rushed for 238 yards on 31 carries against North Pike.
Hickman completed 23-of-37 passes for 325 yards in BA’s loss to Prentiss Christian.
Defensively, West Lincoln junior Lofton Sills received the defensive player of the week. Sills had 16 tackles, which include 12 solo, two tackles for a loss and a sack in the Bears victory over Cedar Ridge of Arkansas.
In week four, senior runningback Tre McDaniel of Brookhaven and junior runningback T-Tex Cole of Lawrence County received the Offensive Player honors. McDaniel helped power the Panthers to a 34-27 win over McComb. H rushed for 183 yards on 27 carries.
Cole amassed 180 yards on 17 carries and scored three touchdowns on the evening to propelled Lawrence County to a 21-20 victory over Prentiss High School.
Defensively, senior linebacker Brett Calcote of Loyd Star won the award. Calcote lead the Hornets with 14 tackles in their loss to Lake.
In week five, Calcote won the offensive player award for Loyd Star with 18 carries for 195 yards and scored two touchdowns in the win over Enterprise.
Senior Devin McEwen of Bogue Chitto took home the defensive player of the week award. McEwen tallied a total of 20 tackles on the evening against Sacred Heart.
In week six, senior quarterback Ty Forman of West Lincoln earned the offensive player of the week honors. Foreman was 4 of 7 passing for 70 yards and lead the rushing attack with 13 carries for 184 yards and 1 TD against Union Christian Academy.
Senior linebacker Leo Lewis captured the defensive player honors for Ole Brook with 12 tackles and numerous of other disruptions in the game against Laurel.
In week seven, Brookhaven Academy’s senior runningback Conner Dorman took for the offensive player award. Conner Dorman paced the Cougars with 111 yards on 18 carries against Simpson Academy.
Defensively, senior Garrett Pace of BA and Peyton Flowers of Loyd Star earned the defense awards. Garrett Pace provided the Cougar defense with 11 tackles, two of losses, a sack and forced fumble.
The Hornets were lead defensively by Peyton Flowers with 22 tackle and forced fumble on the evening against Amite County.
In week eight, senior quarterback Tyler Christmas of Wesson took home the offensive player award. Christmas directed the Cobra’s attack to lead his team to a 45-31 victory over Crystal Springs. Christmas paced the ground attach with 59 rushing yards and was 4 of 13 passing for 164 yards.
Peyton Flowers of Loyd Star and Leo Lewis of Brookhaven were named defensive players of the week. Flowers was the leader on the Hornet defense with 20 tackles and 3 QB sacks against East Marion. Leo Lewis lead Ole Brook’s defensive charge with 12 tackles and QB sack against West Jones.
In week nine, Brookhaven’s McDaniels and Lawrence County’s Brown claimed the offensive players awards. McDaniel lead the Panthers with 12 carries for a total of 173 yards and three touchdowns against South Jones.
Brown was the offensive leader for the Cougars with 14 carries 170 yards and two touchdowns in the contest against South Pike
Defensively, T-Tez Cole of Lawrence and Kendrick Brown of Wesson earned the defense awards. Cole led the Cougars defense with 12 tackles and a quarterback sack against South Pike
Brown was responsible for 11 tackles and numerous disruptions for the Cobras against Jefferson County.
In week 10, Foreman of West Lincoln and McDaniel of Brookhaven were the selected for the offensive player honors. Foreman was 5 of 7 for 101 yards in the air and rushed for another 141 yards on the ground on 15 carries and three touchdowns against Enterprise.
McDaniel lead Ole Brook with 33 rushes for 215 yards and two touchdowns against Natchez
Defensively, Kendrick Brown of Wesson and Peyton Flowers of Loyd Star claimed the defense awards. Flowers led the Hornets defense in the loss with against Bassfield with 16 tackles and a fumble recovery.
Brown led the charge for Wesson with 11 tackles on the evening against Franklin County.
In week 11, Ole Brook’s offensive line earned the offensive player of the week honors. Junior Right Tackle-Brandon Rice, Junior Right Guard-Stephen Springfield, Junior Center-Jordan Nations, Senior Left Guard Jared Dillon, Junior Left Tackle Wanya Morris.
Enterprise senior safety Austin Coleman received the defensive honors. Coleman powered the Jackets with 15 tackles in Enterprise’s 66-6 lost to the Amite County Trojans last Friday at Harry Cole Field.
