Co-Lin Lady Wolves hammer Hinds, Men stumble in South Division play

UTICA – The Co-Lin Wolves and the Lady Wolves captured a split decision against the Hinds Bulldogs Thursday night in their opening day of South Division JUCO basketball action.
The Lady Wolves (8-0, 1-0) blasted the Lady Bulldogs 92-69 in the women’s action.
In the mens’ contest, the Wolves (2-6, 0-1) fell 70-52 in division action to the Bulldogs.
Co-Lin returns to action Monday as they host the Pearl River Wildcats for more South Division action. The women’s game begins at 6 p.m., followed by the men’s contest at 8 p.m.
Lady Wolves 92, Lady Bulldogs 69
The Lady Wolves came out strong and extend their winning streak to eight games after thumping the Lady Bulldogs early in the first half to take a 51-36 lead into halftime.
In the second half, Hinds and Co-Lin fought hard in a close matchup but the Lady Wolves still managed to outscore the Lady Bulldogs 41-33 to secured the division win.
Sophomore guard Claresa Banks powered the Lady Wolves offense with a game-high 17 points to lead four players in double figures. Toni Woods provided a double-double performance for Co-Lin with 15 points and 11 rebounds. Alexis Collins contributed 12 points and Kelley Allen scored 11 points. Kybri Keyes provided assistances on the boards for Co-Lin with six rebounds and had seven points.
Lineasa Palmer was the top scorer for the Lady Bulldogs (1-7, 0-1) with 14 points. Latasha Arnold chipped in with 12 points.
Hinds 70, Co-Lin 52
The Co-Lin Wolves entered into the contest hoping to snap their current losing streak with a big division win, but the Hinds Bulldogs denied their game plan with a 31-19 run in the first half.
In the second half, the Wolves fought hard to rally back into the contest, but could not overcome Hinds lead as the Bulldogs held on to a 39-33 advantage to secured the win.
Donte Watson was the only Wolf to score in double figures as he led Co-Lin with 10 points. Dearius Griffin contributed nine points and Terry Morris had eight points. Jordan Lumpkins, Tyler Turner and Watson powered the boards for the Wolves with seven rebounds.
LaDarrius Drain pumped in a game-high 20 points to lead the Bulldogs. Kourey Davis chipped in with 12 points and grabbed seven rebounds. Edward Walker provided 10 points and was the leader on the boards with eight rebounds.
