Local softball fans from Lincoln and Copiah counties have a chance to witness two local seniors, Micah Redd of West Lincoln, and Kayla Britt of Wesson. When they suit up in their school colors once again. This time, it’s for the 30th Annual MAC All-Star girls’ slowpitch softball games. The games will be played Saturday, Nov. 1 on Mack Fanning Field at Newton County High School in Decatur.

Class 1A/2A/3A and Class 4A/5A/6A will play two games on the evening. Game One for Class 1A/2A/3A will start at 1 p.m. Immediately following the first series, Class 4A/5A/6A will begin.

After the conclusion of the second Game One game, there will be a full squad introductions of all slowpitch All-Star players for all classes.

After the ceremony, Game Two will begin. Class 1A/2A/3A is set to begin, followed by Game Two of Class 4A/5A/6A.

The 1A/2A/3A North squad will be coached by Dana Rhea and assistant Jacob Kid of Nettleton. The South team will be guided by Jason Williams and assistant Jake Nester of Lake.

The All Star Slow Pitch softball games feature a North versus South format and two-game series per classification. After the format was changed in 2006, the North leads the 1A/2A/3A slow pitch series 3-1-5 and the 4A/5A/6A games by a tally of 6-1-2.

In the 2013 contests, the South captured their first win in the 1A/2A/3A series by sweeping the North 16-9 in game one and 19-4 in game two. In the 4A/5A/6A games, the North swept the South by scores of 11-3 in game one and 14-7 in game two to increase their series lead.

Micah Redd, West Lincoln, batted .357 in her senior year for the Lady Bears with 30 singles, six doubles and a homerun. Redd played left-center field.

West Lincoln coach Andrew Redd said that he was extremely proud of Micah for making the All-Star selection. “It is a honor to have a player chosen to represent our school. Micah has worked hard these past few years and provided great leadership.”

Kayla Britt, Wesson, showcased her senior talents at shortstop. She posted a .476 batting average for the Lady Cobras with five home runs and 11 doubles.

Wesson coach Michelle Nunnery was very proud of Britt’s achievement.

“I am very proud of Kayla for being selected for the All-Star game,” Nunnery said. “She is well deserving of this honor. She is an all around great kid on and off the field. We (the team) are planning to load up a bus and head to Newton County High School to support our all star this Saturday.”
